Foolscap folio, 104 pp., together with two other relevant Victorian Parliamentary Papers 1864-66; modern quarter calf. The Royal Commission report on the ill-fated Burke and Wills expedition: 'very scarce and of high interest' (Wantrup). Bound together with two other Reports 1864-66 on the cost and liabilities of the Expedition. The Commission justly apportioned the blame between the expedition's incompetent leader, Burke; William Wright, the careless overseer; and the indecisive Exploration Committee of the Royal Society of Victoria. Although it concluded that Wright appeared 'to have been reprehensible in the highest degree', Burke was also chastised for displaying 'a far greater amount of zeal than prudence… overtaxing the powers of his party', and also for his failure to keep a regular journal. . Provenance: Commander Ingleton, with his bookplate and shelfmark. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 5000948
