Octavo,127 pp.Binder's cloth, the signature of H. M. Whittell, a small lower corner missing from title page and subsequent leaves but not affecting text, rare. The three prominent members of the Bellenden-Ker expedition were Archibald Meston, a local sugar farmer and one-time editor of the Queensland Observer, Kendall Broadbent the taxidermist of the Queensland Museum and F. M. Bailey the Queensland government botanist. Broadbent discovered the Golden Bower-bird Prionondura newtoniana at Tully in 1882. On the Bellenden-Ker expedition he collected further specimens and observed bower construction and other behaviour. The expedition was also a botanical success with thirty new species described. The octavo version has an additional section to the foolscap parliamentary report entitled The Bellenden-Kerr Expedition/A Meston/[Extracted from the "Courier"].
