Beschreibung
Folding map of Taiwan Province indicating topographical features, cities and towns, primary agricultural products such as timber, fruit, rice and sugar cane, industrial outputs such as oil, cement, copper and coal, hydroelectric power stations, as well as train lines are shown. Boat routes with distances to important destinations in nautical miles are also given. Key at bottom left, inset map of China's east coast and Taiwan Straits at top left. Text in traditional Chinese characters. Map shows light signs of use at edges and along folds, now neatly repaired with washi. A previous owner's name written in upper right margin, and the date as well as a faint red stamp from a vocational training school are in lower left margin, not affecting text. Paper evenly browned, slight wear at fold points, edges, and closed tears to margins all repaired on the reverse with archival paper. In good condition. 77 x 56cm. A very topical map in 1955, featuring a call to action ?????????! [We certainly must liberate Taiwan!] boldly printed in red down the right side of the map. The first and second editions published in a run of 10,000 - 30,070 copies did not meet demand, with this third printing bringing the total to 60,079 copies. An interesting map produced at the time of the outbreak of the First Taiwan Strait Crisis, August 1954, it clearly remained very popular. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 216070
