In den Warenkorb4to. 1 1/4 pp. Printed letterhead. A remarkable letter by Chaim Weizmann, addressed to the renowned Jewish writer and Zionist thinker Israel Zangwill. Weizmann advocates for Asis Domet, an Arab intellectual and literary figure in Palestine who faced persecution for his beliefs. Weizmann describes Domet as a courageous and principled individual, highlighting his role in Arab media and assemblies. The letter contains a request for Zangwill to review and possibly endorse Domet's dramatic manuscript, offering to publish its English translation as a gesture of support.May I trouble you with the following request on behalf of an Arab friend of ours, a really distinguished literary man who has published in German newspapers and reviews a great deal of what is generally considered good stuff. Mr. Asis Domet, which is the name of this gentleman, is a highly esteemed Arab and is one of the rare men in Palestine who is really an intellectual and a sincere friend of ours. He comes from a very good family and carries considerable weight. He is suffering very much at present for his opinions and convictions and is being persecuted by our enemies, but with great courage he adheres to his views which he is propagating in the Arab Press and in Arab assemblies. Quite contrary to the usual habit he has never asked us for anything. I made his acquaintance during my recent stay in Palestine and he impressed me most favourably.Amongst other things, he has written a drama, of which I beg to enclose the manuscript. I do not consider myself competent to judge its value and I promised Mr. Domet to submit this MS. to your good judgment and ask you if you would be good enough to go over it and if you would be so kind as to write a few words in the form of an introduction. Should the drama meet with your approval we would, at our cost, publish the English translation as I think it would serve as a great encouragement to this friend of ours, who has not asked us to do this. I feel, however, that in every respect it would be a good step to take.May I use this opportunity to thank Mrs. Zangwill and yourself for your very kind invitation? Mrs. Weizmann and I were very happy to meet you both again and I hope that on my return from the States we may have the privilege of seeing you in our house and have a further talk on the situation in our Movement and in Palestine.".…

In den Warenkorb4to. 6 pp. Printed letterhead. Punch holes to left border. Heavily-notated typed letter to Jan Christian Smuts in South Africa. In part: "There is another aspect to the problem which is worth noting: Unconsciously, perhaps, the American public, and even certain quarters in Washington, have been affected by the anti- Semitic virus. The deadly poison of Hitlerism has spread far and wide. The propaganda that this is a 'Jewish War' is met not by counter-propaganda, but by a conspiracy of silence regarding the Jewish problem. Whereas the Nazi leaders remember us in every one of their blatant utterances, conversely, the leaders of the democracies, with rare exceptions, try to forget our existence. Often I am overcome by the terrible feeling that so far as the Jews are concerned, the Hitlerites have won the war.".…

In den Warenkorb4to. 1 p. Printed letterhead. This is a significant document from Chaim Weizmann, the first President of Israel, addressing the 27th Zionist Congress in 1951, reflecting on the Jewish National Fund's role in securing land for Jewish settlement and reinforcing Zionist ideals. It underscores the JNF's achievements and emphasizes its lasting role in Israel's future. To the traditional session of the 27th Zionist Congress in honor of the Jewish National Fund (JNF).I address you with deep emotions as you have decided to recall the historical connection, linking the Zionist Congress with the past generations of Israel: the founding of the Jewish National Fund and its fifty-year legacy. The Jewish National Fund was established as a unique foundation among us. Through it, we struggled to enable the Jewish people to reclaim their ancestral land, which had been lost. Contrary to all false fears, the Jewish National Fund has always been, and remains, an expression of deep faith in the labor of the people. It was founded with the belief that once the Zionist pioneers built the land, more Zionists would follow. The fund symbolized a sense of security, a feeling of rootedness, and a certainty in one's strengthbecause one's feet stood firmly on their own land. This is the unique value of the Jewish National Fund: as a foundation upon which great and secure achievements are built, leading to the realization of scientific and cultural contributions of Israel. The Jewish National Fund is, and will remain, a fundamental and permanent part of Israel's existence, ensuring that its ownership will never be revoked. The people of Israel must safeguard their sacred heritage, the fundamental national treasure, and uphold their historical continuity in its entirety: the transmission of the cultural and spiritual legacy of Israel, alongside the steadfast determination to realize its national aspirations in the Jewish homeland.".…

In den Warenkorb4to. 1 1/4 pp. Printed letterhead THE JEWISH AGENCY FOR PALESTINE". An important confidential wartime letter from Chaim Weizmann (first President of Israel and key Zionist leader) and Selig Brodetsky (President of the Board of Deputies of British Jews), addressed to Walter Ettinghausen. This letter details the Jewish Agency for Palestine's efforts to mobilize Zionist and Jewish support in Britain during World War II. The letter discusses the establishment of a special department to advocate for Jewish immigration and colonization in Palestine, as well as plans for a crucial conference in London featuring Dr. Weizmann and David Ben-Gurion.A highly significant document, shedding light on the Zionist leadership's strategies during one of the most pivotal moments in Jewish history. Signed by Chaim Weizmann and Selig Brodetsky, this letter is a valuable piece for collectors of Zionist history and World War II-era Jewish political movements. The Executive have been discussing with leading members of the different Zionist bodies in London, as well as with the British Section of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, the present political situation and the steps which ought to be taken to mobilise all Zionist and Jewish forces in this country, under the direction of the Jewish Agency, for the advancement of our aims in Palestine. The Executive are convinced that every Jew in this country can greatly contribute, at this critical moment, to safeguarding the future of our people and our homeland, and can and must take an active part in our political work; in enlightening British public opinion on the general Jewish situation, and on our efforts and achievements in Palestine which provide the only lasting solution of the Jewish problem. The Executive have, therefore, decided to establish a special Department, the task of which will be to bring before British public opinion, as well as before the Jews of this country, the urgency of the Jewish problem and the important part which Palestine can play in its solution through large-scale immigration and colonisation under suitable political conditions. Such a Department can only perform its functions adequately if it has behind it the full weight of Zionist and Jewish support. The Executive have accordingly decided to convene a special Conference of selected laymen from London and the provinces, at which Dr. Weizmann and Mr. Ben-Gurion will report on the present political situation, the position in Palestine, and the problems facing us during and after the war; and where Dr. Brodetsky will outline a plan for our work in this country. A general discussion will follow. The Conference will be held at the Anglo-Palestinian Club (43/44 Great Windmill Street, Piccadilly, London, W.1.) on Sunday, November 9th, under the Chairmanship of Dr. Brodetsky. The morning session will open at 11 a.m. with statements from Dr. Weizmann and Mr. Ben-Gurion; lunch will be provided (1.30 to 2.30 p.m.) in the Club's restaurant; and Dr. Brodetsky's statement will follow in the afternoon. The Conference will close at 5.30 p.m.We should like to extend to you an urgent invitation to attend this meeting; we sincerely hope that you will be able to be present, and to take part in the important work which the new Department will have to undertake. Would you kindly let us know as early as possible whether we may expect you at the Conference.".…
