Zustand: New. Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book surveys agricultural conditions present in each of Connecticut's eight counties. The author does this by showcasing the works of Extension Service agents and relates those efforts to the changes affecting their respective county's agricultural landscape over a period of 20 years from 1918 to 1938. The accounts from each county agent provide a timely glimpse into the lives of farmers and their families living and working during and after World War I through the onset of the Great Depression. The author provides an extensive background on each county and its agricultural sector, providing a valuable snapshot of the people, economy, and opportunities for farming throughout the state during a time of great economic change. The work concludes with reflections from the author regarding the challenges and successes of the Extension Service in reaching varying populations and adapting strategies to help them flourish amidst a dynamic period in agricultural history. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

(ca. 20,5 x 15 cm). ca. 80 S. Original-Leinen mit goldgeprägtem Deckeltitel. Einband leicht berieben, Deckel etwas gebogen. Innen zahlreiche private ganzseitige Einträge und Illustrationen. Altersentsprechend guter Zustand. Schmerz.

WorldCat: Libraries worldwide that own item: 1. Karel Capek was a Czech writer, playwright and critic. He has become best known for his science fiction, including his novel War with the Newts (1936) and play R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots, 1920), which introduced the word robot. He also wrote many politically charged works dealing with the social turmoil of his time. Influenced by American pragmatic liberalism, he campaigned in favor of free expression and strongly opposed the rise of both fascism and communism in Europe. Though nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature seven times, he never received it. Capek wrote on a wide variety of subjects including science fiction, the ethics of industrial inventions and processes, mass production, and nuclear weapons, intelligent artificial beings such as robots or androids. He wrote detective stories, novels, fairy tales and theatre plays, and even a book on gardening. He wrote play The Makropulos Affair, on which Leos Janacek's opera is based. He also wrote, in 1932, children's stories, Nine Fairy Tales: And One More Thrown in for Good Measure.…
