Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book provides a glimpse into the Middle Ages through the lens of Windermere Lake. The peaceful, picturesque appearance of this area is a stark contrast to its history steeped in warfare, political intrigue, and feudal rivalries. The author takes the reader on a journey through time, painting a vivid portrait of the powerful de Lancaster and de Lyndesay families who held sway over this region for centuries. From the building of castles to fierce battles with the Scots, the book delves into the turbulent history of the area. The author also explores the lives of ordinary people, their customs, and the legal framework that governed their lives. Through a wealth of primary source material, the book offers valuable insights into the complex social and political landscape of medieval England. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the rich history of two townships nestled in the picturesque Lake District of England: Blawith and Nibthwaite. The author embarks on a captivating journey through time, tracing the region's story from its early days under Norse rule to the arrival of the Normans and the subsequent impact of powerful figures like William de Lancaster. Drawing upon a wealth of original documents, including records from the Record Office in London and the British Museum, the author paints a vivid picture of a land shaped by knights, monks, and the ebb and flow of power struggles. The book explores the intricacies of feudal society, shedding light on the lives of both the ruling class and the tenants who worked the land. Readers will encounter fascinating details about daily life, including the operation of corn mills, the complexities of land ownership, and the evolution of local laws and customs. The author's insightful analysis of historical records reveals the deep connections between these seemingly remote townships and the broader tapestry of English history. Through its exploration of the past, this book offers a profound understanding of how the present came to be, demonstrating that even in the quietest corners of the Lake District, the echoes of history resonate strongly. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
