Folio. 13'' x 12''. Wol's artistic work was created exclusively in France, where he had emigrated in 1932. Inspired by Surrealism and the Bauhaus masters and without professional training, after a short period as a photographer, he first created surrealist and later informal drawings and paintings. In particular, the oil works of his later phase influenced French and German painters of the Art Informel. Jean-Paul Sartre and other French writers appreciated him as a book illustrator. Contains 79 pp French text with among other things, 12 black framed and mounted watercolours reproduced on removable pages, 15 monochrome drawings between each removable colour plate, 3 photographs to the text section, two extra white framed mounted cards stored within a triangular canvas pocket inside the rear cover. Lightly repaired fraying of the cloth to the spine edges, contents in Fine condition, no slip case.
