Vladislav Vancura (1891-1942) was a Czech novelist, film director, playwright, and screenwriter. He was known for the following films: Pred maturitou (1932); Láska a lidé (1937); Nasi furianti (1937). Vancura was active in the Czech underground resistance and was killed by the Nazi Gestapo. This book contains six illustrations by Czech painter and illustrator Adolf Born (1930-2016). Born was also involved in film. His art often mixes fantasy worlds, people, and animals. For his lasting contribution as a children's illustrator, Born was a finalist for the biennial, international Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2008.
