Translated from the original German by William Shaw and Cuthbert Johnson. Book condition - G., preliminaries soiled and occasional' thumbing' in text, no inscriptions, minor foxing here and there, back page of adverts and back flyleaf with torn across the middle, back hinge split but back board secure, front hinge split and front board holding but somewhat loose ; original green cloth with blind decoration around border and with central device on front and back boards,paper label to spine; corners bent and rubbed, front and back boards with colour fading and some general staining and marks, front and back hinges show splitting at top and bottom, spine complete but rubbed and worn at both ends, the paper label is not original but is done in the style appropriate to the age of the book and is toned and stained but complete. Contains a 24 page memoir of the life of Thaer with a list of his agricultural writings. Chapters include Bases of Enterprise ; Manual Labour ; Draught Labour ; Manure - Fodder - Cattle ; Systems of Cultivation ; Agronomy ; The Theory of the Soil ; On Manuring the Soil , etc. A worn copy of the scarce original first volume but still in readable condition,or suitable for repair or re-binding.…
