A fine original colour lithograph from Vanity Fair, a magazine which was published from 1869-1914, featuring a large caricature portrait each week. These were drawn by various artists, the most famous of whom was Leslie Ward who used the 'nom de crayon' of "Spy". This portrait will come mounted/matted and ready to frame using archivist quality materials, mount size 18 x 12 inches, 47 x 31 cms. It will be presented in a cellophane wrapper with our label guaranteeing authenticity. We pack very well, between sheets of hardboard. This is an excellent opportunity to purchase a portrait of Monsieur Albert Decrais.

Sept. 1838, wurde Advokat in Paris, im September 1870 der Gesandtschaft in Brüssel beigegeben und war 187180 Präfekt. Darauf zum Gesandten in Brüssel ernannt, ward er 1882 Direktor der politischen Abteilung im Ministerium des Auswärtigen und darauf Botschafter beim Quirinal in Rom, 1886 Botschafter in Wien. Im Kabinett Waldeck-Rousseau (18991902) hatte er das Ministerium der Kolonien inne. [Meyers Großes Konversations-Lexikon, Band 4. Leipzig 1906, S. 575.] Die Wochenzeitschrift "Vanity Fair" legte in den Jahren 1869 bis zu ihrer Einstellung 1914 jeder Ausgabe eine Farblithographie mit dem Porträt der sogenannten "Person der Woche" bei. Neben anderen namhaften Künstlern seien vor allem Sir Leslie Ward (London 1851 - 1922) und Carlo Pellegrini (Capua 1839 - London 1889) genannt, die unter dem Pseudonym "Spy"(Ward) und "Ape"(Pellegrini) Persönlichkeiten des öffentlichen Lebens karikierten.
