Harry Farr Yeatman, Mr Tudway, Mr Hall, and Mr Drax were household words with the members of his family. Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a rich and intimate look at the world of foxhunting in England during the 19th century, a time when the sport was at its zenith and a key part of the social fabric of the aristocracy and gentry. The author, a keen sportsman himself, recounts his own experiences as well as those of his father, a clergyman and dedicated foxhunter, and weaves in fascinating stories of other prominent figures in the hunting world. We meet the colorful characters of the day, including the eccentric parson William Butler, whose friendship with the Prince of Wales, later King George IV, was cemented over shared hunts and hunting stories. The author vividly captures the thrill and camaraderie of the sport, highlighting the dedication and skill of huntsmen and the fierce competition among those who pursued the fox across the English countryside. Through these personal anecdotes and observations, the author provides a valuable window into the traditions, practices, and social dynamics of a bygone era. The book is a captivating read for those interested in the history of English country life and the enduring appeal of foxhunting, offering insights into the sport's evolution and the personalities who shaped it.
