New York City wool broker's circulars issued by Kitching Brothers reporting on ship arrivals in… New York and Boston; the import and export of clothing wool, carpet wool, and bales of sheepskins; price quotations for washed and "greasy" wool; and tariff news. The five reports seen here were issued approx. every two weeks from May 22 to July 22, 1872. One report appears in duplicate, both in a broadsheet format and the more typical bifolium format. Kitching Brothers had offices in New York and Philadelphia and were represented in Boston by Ammon P. Kitching. The circulars provide commentary on the state of the wool trade and include detailed reports on imports and current prices in gold. The bi-weekly reports alternate: one report on Buenos Aries, Montevideo, Santiago, and other places in South America followed in the next report with data from Cape of Good Hope colony in southern Africa and from Australia. A wealth of concise data for a commodity infrequently represented via 19th-century ephemera.
