Come precisa l'Autore nella dedica a Boncompagni e alla moglie, la contessa Pullini, si tratta di un libro 'elementare' che intende 'rendere chiaro e privatissimo all'intelletto della gioventu' il fatto divino delle profezie'. Aporti, costretto ad abbandonare Cremona, e scoraggiato dalle sorti in cui versava l'Italia, cerco' consolazione nelle Sacre Scritture, volgendo in particolare lo studio ai profeti poiche' in essi e' possibile cogliere 'il disegno di Dio'.
