Since 1948, Canadian Inuit artists have produced a brilliant art in carvings of stone, ivory, antler and whalebone and in ceramics "The 155 prints reproduced in this widely acclaimed catalogue, 12 of them in full colour, constitute a retrospective survey of the first twenty years of Inuit printmaking in the Canadian Arctic." These 204 pages bring together a series of cultural artifacts that were recently (1973) repatriated from a private collection in Germany. The beauty of the collection is very few pieces were made after 1850. The German collector and his father had spent a lifetime gathering the artifacts from other European collectors.
