Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book is an unapologetically scientific study of the human mind, especially the role of the human brain in shaping our perceptions, experiences, and behaviors. The author, a pioneer in the field of phrenology, positions his work as a necessary next step from the ideas introduced by Gall and Spurzheim, and challenges the prevailing notion that the mind is some immaterial realm that cannot be studied scientifically. Instead, the author presents ample evidence to support his theory that the mind is a product of the brain and that the faculties of the mind can be understood by examining the brain's anatomy. The book is particularly influential in establishing the idea that human beings are not born with fixed and immutable character traits, but rather have the potential to develop and change throughout their lives. The author's exploration of the relationship between the mind and the brain laid the foundation for modern neuroscience and psychology, and his ideas continue to inspire scientists and researchers to this day.

Leather. Zustand: Very Good. First edition. A very scarce work of phrenology by Armand Harembert. With a folding plate tucked in. Two first editions of these phrenological works by Armand Harembert. With large folding plate, here found loose. The pseudoscience of phrenology involves the measuring bumps on the skull to predict mental or personality traits, and in this work, Harembert introduces a number of techniques to measure the human skull. As well as applying his new methods to general human psychology, Harembert also explores its relation to criminal psychology. It is unknown whether the folding plate was at one time bound in, or sold separately. Rebound in a quarter calf binding over patterned boards. Externally, generally smart. Very lightly rubbed to the boards and the joints. The spine label has a tiny chip to the top right corner, and the spine is missing a slither of calf to the head. Rather bumped and worn to the extremities. The front and rear hinges are starting, but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound, although the gutter is visible between pages 30 an 31. Pages are bright and lightly foxed throughout. Very Good. None (illustrator). book.…
