Fine in dark brown leather covered boards with seven raised bands on the spine with gilt tool work and gilt text in the compartments with gilt borders and tool work on the boards. The end sheets are silk and there is a matching silk placement ribbon sewn-in at the head of the spine. All edges of the text block are gilt. A quarto measuring 11 by 8 inches containing 273 pages of text illustrated with color paintings by John Langley Howard. This copy is still contained within the publisher's original shrink wrap. One of the volumes in the Easton Press Library of Fly-Fishing Classics. Illustrated with paintings by John Langley Howard. An extremely handsome copy with no names, dates, notations or prior owner's book plates. A title which is no longer printed and sold by The Easton Press.

Modern rebinding in black cloth with gilt sp. lettering and new end-papers, no obvious faults. xvii + 1264, 921 numbered text ills (t.p. says 'Nearly one thousand woodcuts'; erasable penciled date and sig. of Derek Gibson verso fr. end-paper (this being eminent pioneering cardiologist Derek Gair Gibson, 1935-2021, who was also a bibliophile), some light brown splash marks to t.p. plus faint marginal tanning, the latter recurring throughout, a little heavier to last few pages, otherwise clean, tight and unmarked. This is described on t.p. as a New Edition and pagination is a little higher than listed earlier editions which end on p.1238, however in this edition p.1238 has no obvious breaks in text so either this reflects a re-setting or cumulative effect on internal additions and revisions. Very scarce. Covers virtually everything from bread-making to carriages, health to kitchen furniture and clothes to candles. Originally published in 1844, with subsequent US editions also issued in 1840s. Apparently very scarce, especially this edition. Nearly 1.7 kg unpacked so allow for additional postage especially for non-UK sales. 15 cm x 22.5 cm.

Illustrated with nearly 1000 woodcuts. Publisher's original binding of blind embossed buckram-type cloth with gilt titles on spine which appear to have been professionally re-cased by a skilled bookbinder retaining the original boards. Yellow coated end-papers. Full title: An Encyclopaedia of Domestic Economy, Comprising Such Subjects as are Most Immediately Connected with Housekeeping; as, the Construction of Domestic Edifices, with the Modes of Warming, Ventilating, and Lighting Them; A Description of the Various Articles of Furniture, with the Nature of Their Materials; Duties of Servants; A General Account of the Animal and Vegetable Substances Used in Food, and the Methods of Preserving and Preparing Them by Cooking; Making Bread; The Chemical Nature and the Preparation of All Kinds of Fermented Liquors Used as Beverage; Materials Employed in Dress and The Toilette; Business of Laundry; Description of the Various Wheel-Carriages; Preservation of Health; Domestic Medicine, etc, etc. This copy was formerly part of the "Bibliotheque de L'Ordre des Avocats a la Cour D'Appel de Paris" (the library of the order of lawyers at the Court of Appeal of Paris) with their ownership sticker to the front paste-down and with small, inoffensive stamps to the title page and the last page of the Catalogue at the rear of the book.
