The present item is rare, and its interest is heightened by the fact that it is accompanied by a press release and has the covers covered in what are clearly notes on how to film the ceremony by a press cameraman. Only three copies on COPAC: at the British Library, Sheffield Hallam and the Bishopsgate Institute. An 8vo stitched pamphlet of twenty unpaginated pages in printed card wraps. Internally very good. With full page artist's impressions of the front elevation and 'the concert hall in its setting'; a page with two photographs of 'The Working Model'; and six pages of 'Plans at various levels'. The text consists of a five-page report on the details surrounding the building of 'The Concert Hall' by Howard Roberts, Clerk of the Council, and a full-page 'Appreciation' by Felix Aprahamian. Stapled into the front cover is a duplicated press release ('For the information of the Press'; 1p, landscape 8vo) by Roberts, regarding 'The Concert Hall Foundation Stone Ceremony', dated 10 October 1949. Both covers have a vertical fold down the middle. On the front, in black ink, is a manuscript itinerary (not given elsewhere): '10.00 MEMBERS TERRACE / CASKET FILLING / 10.30 CONFERENCE ROOM / MODELS + IMPRESSIONS / 2.20 P. M. speech'. Above this on the front cover, and filling the whole of the back cover, is a twenty-two item numbered sequence of notes regarding the ceremony, clearly made by a press cameraman. One entry reads: 'interior of middle concert hall (no light)' and others 'exterior aerial view concert hall / low angle / ditto different angle'. First entry reads 'Articles to go into cascet [sic]', another 'Mallett [sic] & Trowl [sic]'.

Early printing of Vice-Admiral Gordon Campbell's My Mystery Ships; from the library of United Kingdom Prime Minster Clement Attlee with his bookplate to the pastedown. Octavo, original cloth. In very good condition. British politician Clement Attlee served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1945 to 1951 and Leader of the Labour Party from 1935 to 1955. He was Deputy Prime Minister during the wartime coalition government under Winston Churchill, and served twice as Leader of the Opposition from 1935 to 1940 and from 1951 to 1955. He is often ranked as one of the greatest British prime ministers. Attlee's reputation among scholars has grown, thanks to his creation of the modern welfare state, and the establishment of the NHS. He is also commended for continuing the special relationship with the US and active involvement in NATO. As of 2022, Attlee remains the longest serving Leader of the Labour Party.

Large original photograph of the 1946 Commonwealth Prime Ministers' Conference, signed by UK Prime Minister Clement Atlee among every other sitter. The large silver gelatin print is signed on the mount by UK Prime Minister Clement Atlee, Australian Prime Minister Ben Chifley, Deputy Prime Minister of New Zealand Walter Nash, South African Prime Minister Jan Smuts, and Labour Cabinet Minister Arthur Henderson among others. In near fine condition. Matted and framed. The entire piece measures 34.5 inches by 24.5 inches. Hosted by UK Prime Minister Clement Attlee, the 1946 Commonwealth Prime Ministers' Conference was the second Meeting of the Heads of Government of the British Commonwealth. Discussions were primarily related to political and economic settlements arising from the end of World War II. The final communiquà expressed the Commonwealth's support for the creation of the United Nations as an instrument for peace and security as well as for raising the standard of living and the promotion of democratic liberty throughout the world. This was the final Prime Ministers' Conference consisting only of the "Old Commonwealth" of majority white nations and white-led South Africa.
