Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book provides a sweeping overview of how the compounding of prepositions has long been a feature of the Greek language. From the archaic use of adverbs down to the late medieval creations, the author investigates the nuances of meaning that are only accessible to those who understand the historical development of these complex constructions. The author takes a linguistic approach, but demonstrates a remarkable erudition with numerous references to etymologies and the development of language through the lens of exegesis, theology, philosophy, and literature. The book also interweaves historical context in its examination of the layers of complexities that are found in the Greek language, paying close attention to the innovations in thought that arose from the compounding of prepositions. The book concludes by noting how the vogue for this type of construction persisted until the end of the Byzantine period and has had a lasting impact on the way that Greek is used and understood, even today. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
