The plates are fully revised from his earlier engraved edition. Publisher's binding of full pale green cloth profusely gilt-tooled to spine and upper, decorative end papers,…top edge gilt. Contents clean, endpapers toned, neat ink ownership to front endpaper, inside paper joint parted but firm, light wear to cloth, spine a little wrinkled. Shows well. A reissue, similar to the first but without date on the title-page, smooth edges to text block, and fewer plates. See Gilson E124 for First thus.

C.E. Brock originally illustrated Pride and Prejudice for Macmillan in 1895, with black and white line drawings. He then collaborated with his brother H.M. Brock on this set for Dent in 1898.

Pagination: Sense and Sensibility xv, [i], 322pp. Pride and Prejudice v, [i], 337pp. Mansfield Park v, [i], 414pp. Emma v, [i], 427pp. Northanger Abbey xiv, [ii], 211pp. Persuasion v, [i], 219pp. With an illustrated frontispiece and 15 colour illustrations by Brock to each volume. The anonymously published Sense and Sensibility (1811), Pride and Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park (1814), and Emma (1816) were modest successes, but they brought her little fame in her lifetime. She wrote two other novels Northanger Abbey and Persuasion, both published posthumously in 1817 and began another, eventually titled Sanditon, but it was left unfinished on her death. She also left behind three volumes of juvenile writings in manuscript, the short epistolary novel Lady Susan, and the unfinished novel The Watsons. Provenance: no inscriptions or bookplates. Approximately 7 ½ inches tall (19cm). Condition Report Externally Spine very good condition gilt titles, and decorations to the compartments, five gilt raised bands, minor marks and variable fading to the leather. Joints very good condition sound. Corners very good condition sharp. Boards very good condition quarter leather and marbled paper covered boards, marked and worn to the cloth, some variable fading and marks. Page edges very good condition top edges gilt, others gently tanned. Binding very good condition sound, good clean copies. See above and photos. Internally Hinges very good condition sound.
