Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book takes an in-depth look at the ancient Greek astronomer Autolycus of Pitane, whose writings are central to the development of trigonometry. The author offers a fresh perspective on Autolycus's theorems on the celestial sphere, along with an analysis of their importance in the history of science. By examining the geometric demonstrations in Autolycus's two treatises On the Moving Sphere, and On Risings and Settings, the book provides insights into the development of spherical trigonometry, as well as the techniques used by early astronomers to measure astronomical phenomena. This examination sheds light on the sophistication of ancient astronomical knowledge and serves as a valuable reference for scholars and students of the history of astronomy and mathematics. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
