Freilich kennt man seinen Namen als den Namen seiner Frau, und dass sie seine Frau war, vergisst man auch sehr schnell, weil man nur deswegen von ihr spricht, weil sie von einem übermächtigen Johann Wolfgang Goethe vereinnahmt wurde, der dem Ort des Geschehens so sehr seinen Stempel aufdrückte, wie kaum ein anderer Mensch. Josias von Stein erscheint erstmalig in einem völlig neuen Licht. Der Stallmeister am Musenhof in Weimar war ein auf Grund seiner Ausbildung kultivierter Mensch, dem Bildung allerdings nicht viel bedeutete.
