Based on the 1978 Frank De Felitta novel, which was in turn loosely based on the 1974 case of a woman who claimed to have been sexually assaulted multiple times by poltergeists. De Felitta was present during the initial investigation by with two parapsychologists, one of whom also served as a technical advisor on the film.
