This paper originally appeared in French in Annales de Geographie, No. 499 Mai-Juin 1981, pp354-380. It was translated into Arabic by Dr Muhammad Ismail Sheikh, Lecturer in the Geography Department at Kuwait University, and includes his introduction. Very good except for chip to the fore edge of p9 with very minor impact on text. Presentation ink stamp to title page. Part of a series of papers issued jointly by the Geography Department of Kuwait University, and the Kuwait Geographical Society. Its Editorial Board included the University's Head of Geography Dr Abdullah Al-Ghunaim, and KGS President Ibrahim Al-Shatti. They published papers of direct interest to countries in the Arabian Gulf, as well as more general and widely applicable studies. These were either prepared in Kuwait, or translated from other sources usually by Geography Department staff with a new introduction.
