In den WarenkorbDisbound. Zustand: Very Good. First Edition. Disbound, with remnants of the original convolute binding on the spine. Small brown stain to title and first few leaves; a few leaves lightly foxed. Slight wear and light soiling to outer pages. ; First and only edition of Barroilhetâs medical thesis on the diagnostic âsignsâ presented by the face in disease, presented and defended at the Facultà de Mà decine de Paris in 1809 when the author was serving as surgeon at the military hospital of Val-de-Grâce. Conceived within the Paris clinical school, the Essai seeks to systematise the semiology of the face, treating changes in expression, colour and configuration as legible indicators of underlying pathological states. The work stands at the intersection of physiognomy and bedside observation, extending eighteenth-century facial typologies into a rigorously clinical context and anticipating later nineteenth-century interest in facial signs in neurology and psychiatry. Listed in the Table gà nà rale des thà ses soutenues à la Facultà de Mà decine de Paris under âSignes de la face dans les maladiesâ (thesis defended 30 December 1809). ; 25.4 x 18.7 cms; 38 pages.

12mo. 2 pp. on bifolium. - The recipient might be the French painter Charles-Gabriel Forget (1807-73).
