Charming original illustration with an interesting inscription from Benjamin Cory Kilvert (1879-1946) who had a long career in illustration for U.S. syndicates. He is best known for his covers and internal work in Life, Collier's, Judge, Punch, and others. Kilvert trained under Robert Henri ad the Art Students League and later joined the American Watercolor Society and the Salmagundi Club. This neighborhood grocery scene, which seemingly was intended for publication though we've not identified the source, is inscribed to the American architect, Aymar Embury II (1880-1966), an interesting New York connection. A lovely piece of Golden Age American Illustration, ready for hanging, and which captures the nostalgia, humor, and slice of small-town life for which Kilvert was known.
