To isolate, culture and maintenance of microorganism, cultural mediums are required. These cultural medium are prepared in research…laboratories and also now-a-days readily available in the market. However their enormous cost restricts their use by the scientist of developing countries. The mediums and their constituents are costly and may not be available at remote place laboratories. Therefore the research workers are always in search of cheap and alternative sources of the medium. The replacement of quantity of agar and sucrose, the carbohydrates and protein sources of the medium are therefore a challenging task. Further development of universal medium for fungal and bacterial plant pathogen was necessarily in need. To replace quantity of agar, gelling agents like tapioca and psyllium husk was used. 1% agar with 2% tapioca was a good solidified gelling agent for bacterial streaking as well as placement of fungal disc. The combination of these solidified gelling agent favoured a good bacterial growth as well as fungal growth. 80 pp. Englisch.

Pour isoler, cultiver et entretenir des micro-organismes, il est nécessaire de disposer de milieux… de culture. Ces milieux de culture sont préparés dans des laboratoires de recherche et sont aujourd'hui facilement disponibles sur le marché. Cependant, leur coût élevé limite leur utilisation par les scientifiques des pays en développement. Les milieux et leurs composants sont coûteux et peuvent ne pas être disponibles dans les laboratoires situés dans des régions éloignées. Les chercheurs sont donc constamment à la recherche de sources alternatives et bon marché pour ces milieux. Le remplacement de l'agar et du saccharose, les sources de glucides et de protéines du milieu, constitue donc un défi de taille. Il était donc nécessaire de poursuivre le développement d'un milieu universel pour les pathogènes fongiques et bactériens des plantes. Pour remplacer l'agar, des agents gélifiants tels que le tapioca et l'enveloppe de psyllium ont été utilisés.
