"Je wenigere Aufmerksamkeit im Allgemeinen der Topographie des Saugadersystems von Seiten der Studirenden geschenkt wird, was einestheils darin begründet ist, daß die anatomischen Sammlungen meistens nur wenige dahin bezügliche Präparate aufzuweisen haben, anderntheils darin, daß wir noch nicht so vervielfachte Abbildungen, wie von andern Theilen der Anatomie, davon besitzen, um so größere Anspruche auf unfern Dank hat der Verfasser durch die Herausgabe dieser Schrift. Die Abbildungen sind aus Mascagni's berühmtem Werke über die Lymphgefäfse entlehnt; nur die 13te Tafel, welche die Milchgefäße und die Drüsen des Darms darstellt, ift nach einem im Leipziger anatomischen Museum befindlichen Präparate genommen. "Wir haben Mascagni's Werk nicht zur Hand, um die Copieen mit dem Originale zu vergleichen, sondern nur die frühem Copieen in Ludwig's Ueberfetzung und in Loders Tafeln; wir stimmen aber Hn. Bock bey, daß die Abbildungen zu feiner Schrift, obwohl in kleinerem Maaßstabe dargestellt, vor den Loder'schen den Vorzug verdienen; und wir dürfen hinzufetzen, auch vor den Ludwig'schen. Dieser Vorzug gründet sich darauf, daß die Darstellung der Theile des Körpers, an denen sich die Lymphgefäßse und Lymphdrüsen befinden, mehr ausgeführt ift, und dafs "die letztern allenthalben gelb illuminirt find, wodurch das Auge sogleich einen Ueberblick über alle darstellten Theile erhält." Allg. Literatzr tg., Julius 1829, Sp. 441 ff. August Carl Bock, geboren am 26. März 1782 zu Magdeburg, wurde von seinem Stiefvater, einem Chirurgen in der niederen Chirurgie ausgebildet. Als wundärztlicher Gehilfe nach Leipzig gekommen, machte er sich durch seinen Eifer im Studium der Anatomie so bemerklich, dass er Assistent und im Jahre 1814 Prosector am anatomischen Theater in Leipzig wurde, welche Stelle es bis zu seinem am 30. Jänner 1833 eingetretenen Tode verwaltete, nachdem er schon 1815 in Erfurt den Doctorgrad erworben hatte. Bock war namentlich ausgezeichnet als Lehrer durch seine Befähigung zu klarer Darstellung anatomischer Gegenstände und als Proscctor durch seine technische Gewandtheit in Anfertigung anatomischer Präparate, durch welche er das anatomische Museum in Leipzig wesentlich bereichert hat. Seine zahlreichen Schriften, von denen sich ein sehr vollständiges Verzeichniss in Callisen's med. Schriftsteller-Lexikon (Bd. XXVI, pag. 344) findet, betreffen ausschliesslich anatomische, beziehungsweise chirurgisch-anatomische Themata. Besondere Erwähnung verdienen "Die Beschreibung des fünften Nervenpaars und seiner Verbindungen u.s.w."
