In den WarenkorbNo Binding. Handwritten letter from William Bompas, signed 'W. C. Athabasca', while serving as Anglican Bishop and missionary of the Athabasca diocese. Dated November 24, 1874, the letter was written at Fort Simpson along the Mackenzie River in what was then Rupert's Land, Canada, and offers a detailed account of Bompas' travels… through Canada after returning from a trip to England, and describes his efforts to set up a mission among the indigenous Slavey people: "I gave up the place of coming by the plains and tried the boat route. We missed the usual brigade of boats to the North and had to come up alone. Domestic life in this country where provision is scarce is full of anxiety. The new Mission with Farm and school which we hope to establish please God on Slave Lake occupy much of my thoughts & Mr. Hardesty the Hudsons Bay officer in charge here has been kind enough to place a house at our disposal for the new Mission." Letter has two slices along top edge but fully legible and intact. An excellent letter from a major figure then in the far north of Canada, describing his work with First Nations peoples.
