Both items in good condition, lightly aged. ONE: TLS. South Africa House, London; 23 August 1972. Written at the start of his second stint as South African Ambassador to London, 1972-1977. He sends warm thanks on Braham's 'good wishes on our appointment to London', continuing: 'We are honoured and delighted to be able to represent our beloved country once again in the United Kingdom'. Braham's 'kind gesture of friendship will serve as an inspiration in the years that lie ahead'. Autograph postscript reads: 'Looking forward to seeing the five of you soon after our arrival ion Oct. 23rd.' At the foot of the page, presumably by Braham: 'Staying at Dorchester for 2 weeks'. TWO: Invitation Card. On one side of 13.5 x 17.5 cm gilt-edged card. Printed in black, with South African crest in gold at head. Reads: 'The Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa and Mrs. Carel de Wet request the honour of the company of [Lt. Col. and Mrs. J. C. du Parc Braham] at a Reception at South Africa House, Trafalgar Square, on Thursday 29 May 1975 at 6.30 p.m. to celebrate Republic Day.'.

Comprising the following: 'The English fleet in 1342 : a celebrated historical comic opera' by John Braham. This is undated as called for, and has been dated from Copac as being c1804. 'The English Fleet' was first performed in December 1803 with John Braham singing. The duet 'All's Well' from this comic operawas the most popular duet in the United States during the first half of the 19th century. Illustrated, with a frontispiece.'Paul and Virginia' a musical drama, founded on Bernadin de Sr Pierre's novel. This musical drama was composed by William Reeve and Joseph Mazzinghi. It is also undated, with Copac citing the publication date as 1800. The paper for this copy is watermarked 1801.The final three leaves bound to this work is another work for the piano forte, 'Sir David Hunter Bllair's Reel' by M P King. This is a scarce work often found bound with other sheets of music.A very bright copy of this scarce collection of sheet music. In a contemporary half calf binding, with paper covered boards. Externally, generally smart. Rubbed to the joints and to the extremities. Minor worming to the head of spine. Joints are cracked, with the hinges firm. Former owner's inscription to the recto of front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright. Closed tear to page 80 of the first work to the gutter. Pages are clean. Very Good Indeed. book.
