Soft cover. Zustand: Fair. 1st Edition. Reprint edition; this is a first print of Pocket Books edition. Paperback is damaged in several ways but yet highly usable, moderately presentable. Exterior is very clean with clear graphics, small nicks to edges, and a tape-repaired spine. Interior is generally clean but 12 pages have children's pencil scribbles - yet readable. Also, binding is cracked open with numerous pages were loose, now adhered with tape repair. Book is complete at 111 pp. with ads at rear. Content is a highly interesting and revealing look at 1950s American culture. Chapter titles include: Why You Should Not Give Up Smoking; The Case Against Smoking; Why You Really Smoke. For example, Chapter One begins: "Let the important fact come first: this is a rare book. It is really sold with a money-back guarantee. Here is the guarantee: . . . It is guaranteed that you will give up smoking. If you don't, you get your money back, and no questions asked." Front fep contains four prior owner names in an interesting format. Book was apparently passed from each of these people to the next in a humorous yet conspiratorial way: "To Angelo from Helen . . . To George from Angelo! . . . To Dick from George . . . To David from Dick." What is apparent is the burgeoning anti-smoking movement. Numerous testimonials are given, for example: . . I just completed a month off the weed after twenty years, thanks only to your volume. I bought six copies and have started a campaign among deserving and needy friends." Text is generally clean and highly readable. Book is essential reading for researchers investigating nicotene habits and tobacco-use culture.
