As with the original. these new editions feature stories by well-known current authors along with re-prints from long-ago writers like Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler. Excellent covers designed by, first, Irving Freeman. He was later joined in the venture by Steve Macanga. The series had a short run of two years as a quarterly. A dispute over rights to use of the title "Black Mask" led to its ceasing publication, all of this according to Wikipedia. These eight copies are all in very good condition with still-glossy covers and no significant flaws. Except for No. 2, they all have a black remainder mark on the text edge below the spine. Bruccoli found "Dearly Beloved" in the F. Scott Fitzgerald papers at the Princeton University library and published it in the Fitzgerald / Hemingway Annual 1969. He notes that "Although it is impossible to date the story with confidence, stylistic evidence places it late in Fitzgerald's career; and Beauty Boy's interest in Plato and the Rosecrucians recalls the Negro fisherman in 'The Last Tycoon' the novel Fitzgerald was writing at his death in 1940.
