Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. First Edition. Quarto in pictorial jacket; 252 pages; illustrations (some color); 29 cm. Excellent b&w photography by Michael Bry and Ansel Adams. A rollicking ride through 1960s California -- see what it was like before Silicon Valley! Bound to make anyone nostalgic.Gorgeous photo printing and a lively, fresh writing style. "Peter Beagle and Michael Bry made a series of trips in an old Volkswagon bus to whatever parts of the state their fancy took them. Their object was to seek out the real California; not the standard tourist landmarks, but the people, places and perspectives found, usually, away from the freeways. They swam with the surfers, explored Big Sur, talked with Joan Baez at her Peace Institure in the Carmel Valley, toured the landmark known as Watts, kicked up sand with dune buggy drivers in the Mojave DEsert, mingled with the educational experimenters at Esalen Institute, rock-climbed at Yosemite, and in general found the variety of life styles that meet in California. [.] contains 150 black and white photographs by Michael Bry and a portfolio in full color by Mr. Bry and other of the West's finest photographers: Ansel Adams, J.R. Eyerman, Philip Hyde, Neil Lakata, Fred Lyon, John Waggaman and Baron Wolman." --Jacket // California, photography, 1960s California, California photography // **Heavy item(s).
