The publication date is estimated but most likely 1929. There is no top stain to the text block & a closed ampersand in G&D at the bottom of the spine & an ad in the rear with 2…8 ERB titles. The DJ is from 1929 with a synopsis of the book on the front flap, a square picture of ERB at the upper left of the rear panel with a list of 28 ERB titles below, and a list of 25 ERB titles on the reverse. The DJ illustration is by N C Wyeth. The chapter heading illustrations are by J Allen St John. The book is in very good shape with bright red boards and sharp black lettering. The DJ illustration is clean and sharp with some light rubbing to the front panel. There is light edge wear with small loss a the top & bottom of the spine. There is a thumbnail sized sticker scrape at the bottom left of the front panel. A good to very good copy of an early Tarzan reprint. N C Wyeth (DJ), J Allen St John (chapter headings) (illustrator).

Hardcover: H 18.75cm x L 13cm. Dust jacket features front panel color illustration by N.C. Wyeth (albeit uncredited) showing bow and arrow-wielding Tarzan wit…h left arm stretched to high tree limb against a jungle background; dj's rear panel has list of books in Grosset & Dunlap's Madison Square Books series. Dust jacket rubbed, some soiling and light stains to white spine and white rear panel, front panel color remains bright but not vibrant, 2cm chip at spine head with shallower chipping at heel, nicks along panel edges with slender loss at flap fold ends; dj now presented in a mylar Brodart protector. Red boards with black lettering, light scuffing at spine ends and board corners, some small surface abrasion to spine as well. Past owner's pencil signature at top edge of front free endpaper. Interior leaves heavily toned as is usual with Grosset's wartime editions. No illustrations amongst text other than title page headpiece by J. Allen St. John. Binding is firm. A good+ copy in a good dust jacket of this collectible variant edition in the famed Tarzan series. {LitShelf#1}.
