Devas also wrote the Manual of Political Economy for the Stonyhurst Philosophical Series in 1892, which had enduring success as a textbook used by schools and seminaries. Before attending Oxford, he had converted to Catholicism, which remained a constant theme of his writings. Henry de Trafford (1877-1915) was educated at Balliol, like Devas, after attending the Jesuit boarding school Stonyhurst. He became a captain in the 2nd Battalion of the South Staffordshire Regiment, and died in France on 25 September 1915.
