In den WarenkorbNo Binding. Zustand: Collectible-Near Fine (Near Fi. Original billhead printed and handwritten in black ink on light beige paper. Black-and-white illustrated header at top. Datelined August 18, 1900 in Sacramento, California. 8 1/2" x 5 1/2." Billhead is very clean and intact except for a few small wrinkles, a few tiny chips to…corners and edges, slight age toning, two vertical fold lines, and a paper stub tipped in on back right edge. A Near Fine copy. An original billhead from the Capital Candy Company/H. Fisher & Co. to F. (Frank) Kunsting of Franklin, California. Kunsting purchased five line items which comprise a type of sour candy ("Sour --?"), "Red Riding Hood Gum," "Seu Seu," "Tutti Frutti," and "Adams.'" The printed header reads, "Capital Candy Company. H. Fisher & Co. Dealers in Fireworks; Dealers in Foreign and Domestic Nuts; Manufacturing Confectioners. 508-510 J Street. 507-509 Oak Ave. Agents for Portland Cracker Co." The Capital Candy Company, also known as the Capital Candy & Cracker Company, was a candy and snack business based in Sa. In 1902, it bought out its predecessor, H. Fisher & Company (this billhead, dated 1900, still names H. Fisher & Co. within the illustrated header). The address of 508-510 J Street was that of H. Fisher & Company, but the Capital Candy Company moved locations after acquiring the former. Although not named on the billhead, George C. Sherman (1868-?) figured prominently in the history of the Capital Candy Company. Sherman had been born in 1868 in Nevada County but received his education in Sacramento. At a young age, Sherman entered the candy and cracker business and worked for H. Fisher & Company. When H. Fisher was bought out by the Capital Candy Company, Sherman remained with the business to become one of its managers.

Capital Candy Company was a candy company based in Sacramento. At the time of these billheads, it is unclear if Capital Candy Co. had yet consolidated with H. Fisher & Company, whose name is printed at the top. Based on online documentation, Capital Candy Co. bought out H. Fisher & Co. in 1902. Capital Candy Co. was also known as Capital Candy & Cracker Company.
