The author laments that '[i]n this country, it is not the fashion to ennoble those who really do something for their time and generation', such as Russell, whose 'stupendous output' consists of 'fifty-seven books everyone [sic] of them good'. The article concludes: 'Of a surety is such a hero a national asset, and the more we think of the subject, the greater is our admiration for that skipper of Calcutta, who first called our attention to the fact.
