Translated from the Latin by Jean Stoner. Cardano's unusually candid narrative records his medical career, intellectual disputes, family tragedies, dreams, illnesses, eccentricities, and lifelong fascination with fate and the occult. Written with remarkable psychological self-awareness, it is frequently regarded as one of the earliest modern autobiographies. Octavo. xviii, 331 pages, with portrait frontispiece. Original gray-green cloth with black lettering and ruled decoration. This 1930 Dutton edition introduced Stoner's English translation, which remains the standard version frequently reprinted today.
