Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. 1st Edition. States "First published 1934." Original price has been clipped from bottom of (pale sea green) jacket front flap. but a new U.S. price of $3.00 has been stamped to top of flap. Probably best known for editor Carter's seminal essay on collecting "Detective Stories," though David A. Randall also contributes "American First Editions, 1930-1933," in which he properly notes Hemingway, Faulkner and Robert Frost, while somewhat famously managing to overlook F. Scott Fitzgerald (feel free to send us your unwanted early copies of "Gatsby"), Dashiell Hammett (ditto "Maltese Falcon" -- though Carter misses Hammett, as well), L. Frank Baum, Edgar Rice Burroughs, etc. Jacket rear panel advertises John Carter and Graham Pollard's "An Enquiry Into The Nature of Certain XIX Century Pamphlets," which the publishers trumpet as "The greatest bibliographical sensation ever known in England" -- a claim for that piece of shocking literary detective work which was not overstated. Dust jacket considerably age-browned to spine; 294 pp. including Index. Now reduced from $87.

First edition [CID CORMAN] From the private library of fthe poet, scholar and editor and translator Cid Corman of Kyoto, Japan. Cid Corman was the editor and publisher of the seminal journal Origin and his press that produced Origin books which were often associated as well with James Weil and The Elizabeth Press in New Rochelle, New York. Cid always read his books with a pen in hand and with an eye as poet and editor. He would annotate often books and his reading either briefly with comments and marginalia or extensively, depending on the book, the subject, and even Cid's personal attachment to a given author, subject or even book. In many cases, Cid could have been involved with a particular author or even the publisher, and his many comments would adjust to that situation. In any case, with all books from Cid Corman's library, they were active and circulating. One of the many small press journals in Cid Corman's library. Cid was often personally attached to particular journal as either a visiting editor or just various editors were more than curious about Cid Corman's sense of things and would share their journals with him. Fine wraps. A strong presence of Cid's in his reading through the text, notes, and introduction. Cid shows where his path has been with notes or a query. Tipped in a bookmark from Longhouse, Vermont publisher, a poem by "Scarecow ", another poet close to Cid's heart. Cid spreading to the Buddha.

In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Near Fine. 1st Edition. First published in 1896, this is a Doughty Library edition of 1967. Some very slight edge wear to top and bottom of jacket and spine, corners slightly rubbed, jacket overall very clean and fresh. Not price clipped (30s), no inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg++ copy for its age. 267pp. A romantic adventure yarn of plotting and corruption largely set against the panorama of Imperialist Russia but with some of the skulduggery taking place in the major capitals of Europe. An old Etonian and half Russian, Prince Paul Alexis, inherits the Osterno estate in the Steppes. Naive and honest, but helped by experienced campaigner Steinmetz, he forms a progressive but illegal Charity League to succour the needs of the starving uneducated peasantry who are ravaged by cholera. When the League is betrayed there are severe consequences for the neighbouring nobility and Paul himself only just escapes a violent death at the hands of his own serfs. Who has betrayed them? Is it Claude de Chauxfille Paul's erstwhile rival in love or is the beautiful Etta, his wife, keeping more secrets than he or Steinmetz can guess? With intrigue and deception at every turn 'The Sowers' was Merriman's biggest bestseller eventually reprinted many times.
