This is one volume of an eight volume report. Engineer Intelligence is a historical coverage of intelligence activities of the Engineers in the Theater during World War II. It has been divided chronologically rather than by campaigns, because the intelligence work did not begin and end in definite phases concurrently with the actual combat which it was supporting. While one campaign was being fought in a particular place, map production and compilation of Engineer intelligence reports were be prepared for another combat action which might not be scheduled for months to combat, and would would be located hundreds of miles from the preset scene of action. The Engineer intelligence mission in the Theater was accomplished, in general, through the execution of two functions: mapping, and research and reports. This volume treats these two functions separately within the time period devoted to each chapter.
