He was one of the most important artists of the Madrilean counterculture movement La Movida Madrileña ("The Madrid Movement"). Early in his career Ceesepe made several controversial and outrageous underground comix. A 1984 satirical comic strip by his hand caused protest among the right-wing political party Allianza Popular. His best known comic series were the surreal humorous 'Slober' (1975-1979). Ceesepe's work often changed in styles and techniques, but was always instantly recognizable as his own. Photographer Ouka Leele once described him as the "Spanish Toulouse-Lautrec". ~~ Early life and influences: Carlos Sánchez Pérez was born in 1958 in Madrid. He came from a family of carpenters who originally lived in Torrevieja, but settled in Madrid after World War II. His father was a veteran from the Spanish Civil War. Ceesepe's older brother also enjoyed drawing. As a youngster Ceesepe underwent strong influence from the pop art movement, particularly Peter Phillips and Peter Blake, the man who designed the album cover of 'Sgt. Peppers' (1967) by the Beatles. Other graphic influences were Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró, Amadeo Modigliani, Max Ernst, David Hockney, Lucian Freud and Marc Chagall. The young boy started drawing at the age of 16 and enrolled at the Madrid School of Fine Arts, but dropped out after only a month. (Archives web). El 25 de noviembre de 2014, Carlos Sánchez Pérez, artísticamente conocido como Ceesepe, presentó en el Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid, un libro de artista recopilatorio con muchas obras de éxito en diferentes periodos de su vida, enriqueciéndolo con anotaciones y citas de su experiencia y emociones. Para que este libro saliera adelante, se hizo un crowdfunding (financiación colectiva o micro mecenazgo). Esta pieza única nos muestra tanto sus obras artísticas como sus reflexiones a través de la pintura, escritos y descripciones hechas por compañeros y colegas de profesión. Así, por ejemplo, podemos leer una descripción del pintor como un ser enigmático, pasional, obsceno y lírico (Borja Casani). Una criatura de la noche, dedicado en cuerpo y alma a su vertiente artística, perdido entre marcos, lienzos y pinturas. Nos muestra algunas de sus más célebres pinturas: sinuosas y sensuales mujeres, grupos de personas, fiestas, bailes, músicos? destilando erotismo en una amplia gama de colores y fundidos en un marcado estilo único y personal. Algunas de sus obras posteriores muestran nuevas técnicas, collages que unen fotografías, imágenes, recortes y sus propios esbozos, combinados de manera magistral en una abstracta realidad de tonalidades y vivezas. También ha coqueteado con diferentes técnicas digitales, aunque no termina de sentirse del todo cómodo trabajando desde un ordenador. Sus últimas creaciones juegan con las formas y la textura de la madera, creando verdaderas maravillas en 3D a partir de tocones, figuras, utensilios domésticos y todo lo que encuentre que le sirva como inspiración. 378 pp. 27 x 23.
