Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a fascinating glimpse into a bygone era, focusing on Forest Home Cemetery, a historic burial ground located near Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The text, likely written in the late 19th century, provides a detailed account of the cemetery's layout, rules, regulations, and the individuals and families who purchased plots within its hallowed grounds. The author meticulously describes the cemetery's design, emphasizing the meticulous division of land into sections, blocks, and individual lots. The reader is presented with a detailed inventory of the cemetery's residents, with a complete list of lot owners and their allocated spaces. This comprehensive directory, presented in a seemingly exhaustive format, paints a vivid picture of the lives and identities of those who called Forest Home their final resting place. The book's meticulous focus on the cemetery's layout and the people interred within it provides a window into the social and cultural values of the time, highlighting the importance of proper burial rituals, the role of family and community in death, and the enduring symbolism of commemorating the departed. The text underscores the significance of cemeteries as not only final resting places but also lasting memorials to those who have passed. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. …

Map. Hand colored lithograph. Booklet cover measures 6 1/8" x 4 1/4". Image measures 28 1/2" x 22 1/2". This beautiful hand colored lithograph of a portion of Southeastern Minnesota, bordering Wisconsin, was created by Silas Chapman and published in 1856. Originally published as a pocket map, it would have folded neatly into its brown leather cover. This highly detailed map depicts cities, towns, and railroads, as well as rivers and lakes. The different regions are demarcated by different colors as was common at the time. The map has been reinforced along original folds. Some minor toning at margins and creases but otherwise very good condition. Silas Chapman (1813 - 1899) was a Milwaukee map and book publisher known primarily for his maps of the upper Midwest, which were influential at a pivotal time of the settlement of that region. Cloth covers and paper label worn, with some stains, some splits at folds, including a long split extending in from right margin, some minor margin chips, normal aging; otherwise about very good. Silas Chapman (1813-1899) was born in Massachusetts, and would become a prominent midwestern map publisher. His firm was very active during the 1850-1870 period publishing many wall and pocket maps of midwestern locations. This map is a colorful sample of an early map of Wisconsin, which was originally published in 1853. The map was published about seven years after Wisconsin became a state, and it essentially features about two thirds of what is currently Wisconsin. On this map the most northern county is Polk. The Northern part of the sate is not shown. geographicus website.…
