The Saint in Miami by Leslie Charteris is the 22nd novel in the Simon Templar series, following the adventures of the suave and resourceful detective known as "The Saint." Set during the early days of World War II, the story unfolds in Miami, Florida, where Simon and his companion, Patricia Holm, arrive to visit friends. Upon their arrival, they discover that their hosts have mysteriously disappeared. Their investigation leads them to a series of events, including the explosion of a tanker off the Florida coast and the discovery of a dead British sailor washed ashore. The sailor's wrist is adorned with a lifebelt from the British submarine H.M.S. Triton, suggesting a connection to British naval operations. As Simon delves deeper, he uncovers a Nazi spy ring operating in Florida, with ties to a shady millionaire yachtsman named Randolph March. The plot thickens as Simon navigates a complex web of intrigue, deception, and danger, all while contending with local authorities and the ever-present threat of espionage. This novel marks a significant shift in the series, as it is the first Saint novel published after the outbreak of World War II and introduces themes of wartime espionage. It also signifies the beginning of a trend where Simon's adventures take place primarily in the United States, as opposed to the earlier settings in Europe. The story combines elements of mystery, action, and political intrigue, reflecting the global tensions of the era. …
