Lo Charvaz (Hautecour en Tarantaise, 1793-Montiers, 1870), pedagogo dei principi Vittorio Emanuele e Ferdinando di Savoia, Vescovo di Pinerolo e poi Arcivescovo di Genova, fu nominato nel 1862 Cavaliere dell'Ordine dell'Annunziata. Fu autore di numerose scritture di apologetica cattolica indirizzate in modo particolare contro i Valdesi, sottoposti a duri rigori nella sua stessa politica episcopale. Hugon / Gonnet, 2008. "Dopo essere stato precettore dei figli di Carlo Alberto, il 20 gennaio 1834 fu nominato vescovo di Pinerolo; consacrato vescovo il successivo 9 marzo, prese possesso della diocesi il 31 marzo. Un terzo della popolazione della sua diocesi era allora valdese e monsignor Charvaz si confrontò con questa realtà [.], predicò la conversione dei valdesi al cattolicesimo fondando, tra l'altro, a Torre Pellice il Priorato dell'Ordine dei Santi Maurizio e Lazzaro. Nel 1844 nella cattedrale di San Donato accolse solennemente la conversione di ventiquattro valdesi".
