Hardcover. Zustand: Good. First Edition. 8vo. xxxiii, 504pp. Col. ills. Burgundy cloth with gilt spine lettering and blind-stamped borders to the boards. Boards bumped at corners and spine ends, cloth rubbed at the corners, with a few light spots to the boards. Rear board with a hard bump and break in the cloth at the fore-edge, ink name and address to the back of the frontis. Light foxing to the endpapers, a few pencil ticks throughout, and price corrected in ink to the title-page from 15, to 10 rupees, else a clean and tight copy. Complete with all illustrations. From the library of Harry G. Lumsfeld, biologist and research scientist with Ontario's Ministry of Natural Resources. In 2004 Harry Lumsfeld became a Member of the Order of Canada for his outstanding contribution to wildlife management and conservation.

Clean tight text has been trimmed and rebound in plain full brown leather with four raised bands and a leather title label. Inscription of owner at start of book. Book is in very good condition with minor signs of wear and/or age.

Original pictorial paper wrappers, the backstrip a bit frayed, a couple of lower corners at the end creased, front wrap coming loose with a small edge tear without loss,signed by the author at the end of the Preface and with a 4-line ms. note in ink at p.157, library book-plate and stamp on the verso of the title, no other marking, a good copy. *COPAC gives the British Library copy only. The above copy had three additional broadside poems loosely added - 'Pleasures' at the Sea-Side. 'Comfortable' Apartments; The Circle of Man [March 1917]; Nearing the End (The Atheist's Last Words). [July 1918]; PLUS an advertising sheet for the above title - 'I have reduced the price of the Book through the high Food Prices'.

Large tinted lithograph bird's eye/ balloon view of London (overall 46 x 98 cm) extending from Primrose Hill (N) to Wapping Basin (E), Kennington (S) and Shephers Bush (W). Multiple adverts to verso, lithographed by J.J. Kenning & CO. Traces of original fold creases and repair to verso top left corner, generally very good. An attractive map. Uncommon plan showing London at the height of empire.
