J.C. Kindermann, luthers predikant in Doetinchem en letterkundige (Amsterdam 1804 - Utrecht 1871) schreef onder het pseudoniem Chonia een vervolg op 'Het Leesgezelschap van Diepenbeek' van de Groningse hoogleraar P. van Limburg Brouwer uit 1847. Daarin behandelde deze, vaak op ironische wijze, de richtingenstrijd in de hervormde kerk die toen gaande was, waarbij hij zelf duidelijk partij koos tegen de orthodoxie en voor de meer vrijzinnige zogeheten Groninger School. Het boek werd vele malen herdrukt. Van dit vervolg verschenen in 1850 twee drukken en in 1858 volgde nog een derde druk.

De eerste druk (1853) was nog uitsluitend onder het pseudoniem Chonia verschenen, in deze tweede ondertekent Kindermann het voorwoord met zijn echte naam.
