En el presente volumen colectivo se pone a prueba la generalidad de la teor¡a del autocontrol en particular en tests emp¡ricos con datos de Colombia, Ecuador, Espa?a y Venezuela. De este modo se une a las cada vez más habituales investigaciones que han testado ésta y otras teor¡as en ámbitos socioculturales muy distintos entre s¡ y respecto a los Estados Unidos, de donde proceden, con alguna notable excepción, las más influyentes explicaciones del delito. De modo más general, este esfuerzo colectivo desea también con-tribuir al conocimiento, cr¡tica y evaluación de las explicaciones más importantes sobre el comportamiento criminal Âùentre las que se encuentra la teor¡a general del delitoÂù, as¡ como al desarrollo de la Criminolog¡a positiva mayoritaria en los pa¡ses de habla his-pana.
