Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Gilt-stamped green cloth; thin 8vo; 65pp; top edge gilt; illustrated with b/w photo frontispiece plus 9 text photos, 2 fold-out charts; printed by Harvard University Printing Office, Cambridge, MA. Claflin's reminiscences of hunting the wily partridge in New Hampshire and the Adirondacks and Utica areas of New York over a 20-year span, back when the birds were plentiful. He hunted primarily without the benefit of canine companionship. A sequel of sorts to his earlier "Partridge Rambles" from 1934, which was published anonymously. It wasn't until this title was printed that he claimed authorship. Both titles are extremely scarce and this copy is in near fine, collectible condition. Laid in, a printed card stating "With the Compliments of the Author.".

Hardcover. Zustand: Good. 1st Edition. Quarter brown cloth spine and patterned paper over boards with paste-on cover title label; 12mo; 32pp; illustrated with frontispiece drawing plus 2 head-piece vignettes. Tales of gunning partridge in the covers of southern New Hampshire-all without benefit of a gun dog. Claflin's theories of dog-less hunting are of merit and he is not bashful about expounding on them. No limitation stated but doubtless published in a small edition, perhaps 100 copies or less. A prequel to his other upland shooting title "Partridge Adventures." This copy is in good condition with chipping to upper corner of both covers and text block, not affecting any text or images. Internally quite clean and bright bearing a signed presentation from Claflin in the year of publication. One small unobtrusive pencil notation in margin. Most uncommon as the OCLC locates but 3 copies of which 2 reside at Harvard. Inscribed by Author(s).

"My New Hampshire activities in the first years of the 1920s were spent in the country south of Mt. Monadnock - a pretty good partridge country in those days, but we soon began to drift further north and found this new country with its many deserted farms more to our liking. It was also in the early twenties that I began to hunt the country along the fringes of the Adirondacks, west of Plattsburg.the partridges of New York State were tamer than their relatives in New Hampshire".
