Brossura. Zustand: new. Alessandria, 2021; br., pp. 160, cm 15x21,5.(Bibliotheca germanica. Studi e testi. 49). Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. First Edition. Xii, 139 pp. Bibliography, index verborum; of the Ioci in Isidore's Etymologiae; of manuscripts of names, authors & works. Illustrated with 4 manuscript pages. Dark grey-green dust jacket with illustration from the Northumberland Bestiary. Very slight shelf wear to dust jacket, book itself is clean and tight, appears unread. "Between the end of the twelfth and the beginning of the thirteenth centuries, scribes at the Cistercian abbey of Buildwas in the West Midlands copied four glossaries at the end of a manuscript containing the De institutis coenobiorum and Conlationes by John Cassian. These glossaries, preserved in Oxford, Bodleian Library, MS Bodley 730, offer precious evidence of the continuity of the Old English glossarial tradition well into the Middle English period. At the same time, in their Latin (and sometimes Greek) entries followed by Latin, Anglo-Norman, and English glosses, they bear witness to the multilingual environment of their time and place. This volume presents the first full edition and comprehensive study of the Bodley Glossaries that adequately sets them in the history of medieval English lexicography. An introduction that analyzes the structure of the glossaries, their sources and analogues, their language, and their context, prefaces the edition. A complete textual apparatus and explanatory notes offering fresh interpretations, parallels to, and commentary on each entry succeed each glossary." ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 139 pages.

Hardback. Zustand: New. Situates Celtic languages and literatures in relation to European movements, in the tradition of Helen Fulton's groundbreaking research.Professor Helen Fulton's influential scholarship has pioneered our understanding of the links between Welsh and European medieval literature. The essays collected here pay tribute to and reflect that scholarship, by positioning Celtic languages and literatures in relation to broader European movements and conventions. They include studies of texts from medieval Wales, Ireland, and the Welsh March, alongside discussions of continental multicultural literary engagements, understood as a closely related and analogous field of enquiry. Contributors present new investigations of Welsh poetry, from the pre-Conquest poetry of the princes to late-medieval and early Tudor urban subject matters; Welsh Arthuriana and Irish epic; the literature of the Welsh March - including the writings of the Gawain-poet; and the multilingual contexts of medieval and post-medieval Europe, from the Dutch speakers of polyglot medieval Calais to the Romantic poet Shelley's probable ownership of a Welsh Bible.
