No Binding. Zustand: Very Good. No Jacket. Very Good+. Facsimile Keepsake Edition (ca. 1950s-1960s). 12mo (approx. 6.25 x 4.75 inches / 16 cm); [16] pp. Bound in publisher's original heavy textured cream laid paper card wrappers with decorative blue and gilt Renaissance-style strapwork borders and title "Saint Nicholas" to front cover, tied at the spine with original white braided cord. Faithfully reproduces in exact facsimile the scarce 1849 Spalding & Shepard edition, including original title page within twig/rustic branch border, full verse, and charming woodcut engravings throughout designed and engraved by Theodore C. Boyd. Rear cover bears the printed limitation note: "This is a HAPPY re-creation of the 1849 ILLUSTRATED EDITION of which only two copies are known to exist. That from which this facsimile was reproduced remains behind locked doors in New York's Fifth Avenue Library." A clean, crisp, and intact copy with bright paper, sharp corners, secure original string tie, and spotless interior pages. Shows only faint age-toning and trivial handling softening along the wrapper extremities. First published anonymously in the Troy Sentinel in December 1823, Clement Clarke Moore's A Visit from St. Nicholas redefined the iconography of Santa Claus in Anglo-American culture. The 1849 edition published by Spalding & Shepard at 189 1/2 Broadway marked the definitive early standalone illustrated presentation of the poem, featuring the influential visual interpretations of engraver Theodore C. Boyd. This mid-century facsimile keepsake—reproduced directly from the locked vaults of the New York Public Library's Rare Book Division—is a charming and desirable holiday collectible for Clement C. Moore and Christmas antiquarian ephemera enthusiasts.…
