CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: A memorial volume undertaken by the family of Zebulon Baird Vance. Vance was Colonel of the 26th North Carolina Infantry Regiment, seeing action at New Bern and then the Seven Days battles. He was later elected Governor of North Carolina during the war. U.S. authorities imprisoned him after the war. Many of the chapters were written by various individuals who knew Vance well; the publication was authorized by Vance's family.
